Disaster Recovery 101: The Basics

First of its kind basic remains recovery course for post-disaster events. Help your community heal from the ravages of disaster by learning to assist in the thorough and dignified recovery of remains.

Why this course was created

The video sourced from Hawaii News Now discusses an investigation into the alleged mishandling of human remains following the Lahaina wildfire. A forensic morgue team hired by the Maui Police Department is accused of not following protocols for the respectful and accurate recovery of victims.

Grayson Ibarra, the head of the morgue operations at Graytech LLC, raised these concerns more than a year ago but was unable to speak publicly until his contract with the Maui Police Department ended. He reports that the missteps continue to haunt him.

The lack of training and inability of personnel to follow the standard operating procedures of identification, collection, and documentation of remains is exactly why Resolute Promise chose to create this certified training course. There are far too many untrained individuals responding to mass casualty events leading to inaccurate identification of the deceased.

This course was created to train as many first responders as possible on the respectable, dignified, and accurate collection of remains in the aftermath of any mass casualty event.

HNN investigates reports of mishandled remains in the aftermath of the Lahaina disaster.
